President | Daniel J. Kimmel

Daniel J. Kimmel (they/them) is a seventh-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Religion. They specialize in religion, philosophy, and magic in the classical and late ancient Mediterranean (c.500BCE-500CE), especially the history of Christianity in the Roman Empire. Their doctoral research focuses on the early-third century /Divine Institutes/ of Lactantius and its role, among other things, in advocating for human rights and religious liberty under the “law of humanity”.
Daniel is currently serving their second term as President & Chief Executive Officer of the graduate student government (2023-2024; 2024-2025). During their tenure, Daniel has continued their record of institutional reform by, for example, leading the development and implementation of measures that rebalanced the GSO budget to end a years-long trend of deficit spending, promote the equitable distribution of the graduate student activity fee and cost-sharing, reduce wasteful expenditures, and route more funds back into the hands of graduate students travelling to present their research via the improved GSO PAC grant program. Prior to the Presidency, Daniel served two terms as the GSO’s Vice President of Internal Affairs & Chair of the Senate (2021-2022; 2022-2023), advancing key institutional reforms and augmenting graduate student representation in and outside of the GSO Senate; before that, they served three terms as a University Senator (2018-2019; 2019-2020; 2020-2021).
Vice President | Roger Rosena

Roger Rosena is in his 6th year in the Department of Philosophy. He specializes in philosophy of mind and epistemology. He is currently writing on the relationship between imagination, knowledge, and what role imagination plays in the acquisition of knowledge.
Roger is currently serving as Vice President of Internal Affairs and Chair of the Senate of the GSO. This is his fourth year serving with the GSO, previously serving as Academic Plan Senator of Philosophy (2021-2022), At-large Senator (2022-2023), University Senator and President Pro Tempore of the Senate (2023-2024), and two years as Vice Chair of the Professional, Academic, and Creative (PAC) Grant Committee (2022-2024).
As Vice President of Internal Affairs, Roger plans to increase the graduate student body’s engagement with the GSO Senate and educate graduate students on the GSO Senate and its internal affairs. He is very excited to serve as Vice President of Internal Affairs this year and is very happy to answer any and all questions related to the GSO Senate and GSO Internal Affairs.
Director of External Affairs | Becca Vinciquerra

Becca Vinciquerra is a second-year master’s student in the Department of Political Science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Specializing in American Politics, her work focuses on civil rights and media, particularly investigating the role of media and its effects on voting behavior.
Becca is serving her second term as Director of External Affairs and Co-Chair of the Outreach and Civic Engagement Committee of the Graduate Student Organization. Her previous roles as Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee, University Senator and Director of Health and Sustainability of the Student Association at University at Albany have provided her with the opportunity to represent students and implement innovative initiatives. These experiences have informed and enriched Becca and have provided a foundation upon which her continuing acquisition of involvement and knowledge is predicated on.
In her work, she emphasizes the importance of serving as a bridge between the graduate student population and University Administration, highlighting engagement, outreach, and service. Her time in office is dedicated to strengthening a sense of community for graduate students and increasing external relations in the Syracuse area. She looks forward to representing her fellow graduate students and working with the members of the Graduate Student Organization in a variety of capacities.
Comptroller | Aditee Malviya

Aditee Malviya is a dedicated master’s student in the Department of Computer Science at Syracuse University, expected to graduate in May 2025. Her academic journey is characterized by a focus on algorithms, data management, and web development, with a particular interest in leveraging technology to drive innovation and efficiency.
Currently, Aditee serves as the Comptroller of the Graduate Student Organization and held the position of Finance Secretary in the previous academic year. She is serving as the Chair of Finance Committee. She is also actively involved as a Campus Ambassador for the New York State Business Plan and the Hult Prize, where she has worked to represent and support student initiatives across campus.
In her current work, Aditee emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application. Her time at Syracuse University is dedicated to not only advancing her technical skills but also to enhancing the sense of community and collaboration among her fellow graduate students.
Looking ahead, Aditee is eager to continue representing her peers and contributing to the vibrant academic and professional community at Syracuse.

General Secretary | Cody Van Nostrand

Cody Van Nostrand is a Master of Science student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, having just completed his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Minor in Physics in Spring 2024. His research and professional experiences have in mostly STEM applications, but he has a personal passion for politics and governance.
Cody currently serves as the General Secretary of the Graduate Student Organization Senate. Prior to this role, in SU organizations he held leadership positions such as President of Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society, and Director of Tech for Kappa Theta Pi – The Professional Fraternity of Technology. Additionally, a formative experience in attending the U.N.’s 5th Conference of the Parties of the Minamata Convention in Geneva, Switzerland led to a renewed commitment to leadership and service.

Communications Secretary | Alexis Faison

Alexis V. Faison (she/her) is a first-year master’s student in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications public relations program. Her work focuses on mobilizing strategic communication methods to be more effective in communicating on behalf of clients, organizations, and brands.
Alexis previously served as Class President from 2020 – 2023 at her undergraduate institution, Loyola University Maryland. During this tenure she worked alongside her six-person Assembly and three-person Senate to advocate and create spaces of community for her class year. She also served as a communications fellow for Governor Wes Moore’s Office of Communications, the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and the Maryland Department of Education. Alexis looks forward to using her previous experience to inform her approaches in building long-lasting relationships between the graduate student body, its partners, and the Graduate Student Organization.
Alexis’s short and long-term goals include improving organizational communication standards, creating accessible touch points between constituents, and ensuring that external affairs is a keystone of establishing a knowledgeable graduate student body.

Parliamentarian | Joseph Beckmann

Joseph Beckmann is a fifth-year math PhD student working in the area of algebraic geometry. Using the techniques of Fulton-MacPherson intersection theory, they are attempting to answer the question: in three dimensional space, what is the most times two curves could intersect?
Joseph is serving as Parliamentarian, a role which functions similarly to a referee. The GSO Senate operates using Robert’s Rules of Order; the parliamentarian ensures fairness by advising the Chair of the Senate on what these rules are, so that no one breaks any of them to someone else’s detriment. In addition to that, Joseph’s role as Parliamentarian also includes serving as the Senate’s Reading Clerk, Teller, Timekeeper, and Assistant Sergeant at Arms, and as a member of the Agenda Committee, of the Rules and Administration Committee, and as an ex officio member of the Finance Committee.
Joseph plans to focus on education, with the eventual goal that by the end of the academic year, as many senators as possible feel empowered to not only make motions, but also sufficiently supported to write resolutions from the ground up.
President Pro Tempore | Avery Welna

Avery Welna is a 23 year old from Minneapolis Minnesota. They graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a double major in Political Science, International Studies, and Rhetoric. They are currently attending Syracuse University as a master’s student in Public Diplomacy and Global communications at the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. They come to Syracuse University with a deep knowledge in nuclear nonproliferation and arms control as well as rich experience working in government, non-profit organizing and policy making, and serves as a leader within their community utilizing strong skills in public speaking and project management. Avery intends to work in national security with an emphasis in disarmament and arms control.
Avery currently serves as the President Pro Tempore of the Syracuse GSO, utilizing their knowledge of Parliamentary procedure to facilitate dialogue on the GSO floor. Through this position they aim to create more education on Roberts Rules for senators and increasing accessibility with the GSO by doing so.
